Keyboard Test
Press keys and the same position lights up on screen. Keys that have responded stay colored, so dead keys stand out.
Event log (newest first)
How to use
- Pick your layout (untick "Show numpad" for keyboards without one)
- Press every key once; responding keys change color
- For rollover, hold several keys and read "Simultaneous (max)"
- A key that logs twice per press or raises "Possible chatter" may have a worn switch
If it does not work
- Keys the OS or browser grabs first (Windows key, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+W) may not be testable here
- The Fn key is handled inside the keyboard and never reaches the browser
- PrintScreen may only respond on release (it still turns colored)
- On a Mac, releasing other keys may not register while ⌘ is held
- A low simultaneous count (for example, nothing beyond 3 keys) can be the keyboard's rollover limit
FAQ
Are my keystrokes logged or sent?
No. The log is only shown on this page and disappears when you close it.
How do I tell JIS from US?
JIS has a tall inverted-L Enter key plus 変換, 無変換 and ¥ keys. US ANSI has a wide Enter and a backslash key above it.
What is key chatter?
A worn switch bouncing so that one press registers twice or more. This page counts it when the same key is pressed again within 30 ms of release.
