FAQ
What is a grid battery storage site?
Land for a battery that connects to the power grid, charging when there is surplus power and discharging when supply is short. Since April 2026, low-voltage batteries under 50 kW can reportedly join Japan's balancing market through aggregators, so developers are looking for small plots.
How much land is needed?
Published developer criteria range from about 6 tsubo (about 20 m²) to over 300 m². Many start around 30 m², but distance to utility poles, road access, land category and nearby homes matter just as much.
Can farmland be used for a battery or parking?
Using farmland for anything else requires a conversion permit (or a notification in urbanization promotion areas). Land in agricultural promotion zones and Class 1 farmland is in principle not approved. Ask the municipal agricultural committee for the classification.
How accurate is the result?
It shows general tendencies based on your inputs. Whether a use is actually possible depends on laws and local rules, the grid operator's review, developer screening and the site itself.
Is my input sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
